1. Purpose of This Policy
FreeWishes publishes and provides access to content such as:
- Wishes
- Greetings
- Quotes
- Captions
- Messages
- Festival information
- Special-day information
- Greeting cards
- Baby-name information
- Articles
- Educational and informational content
- Creative content
- AI-assisted content
- Images and graphics
- Other related material
We aim to respect the rights of authors, artists, photographers, creators, publishers and other rights holders.
If you believe any content on FreeWishes infringes your rights, has been incorrectly attributed, contains your work without appropriate permission, or should otherwise be reviewed, you may request correction or removal.
2. Types of Content on FreeWishes
Content on FreeWishes may include one or more of the following categories.
2.1 Original FreeWishes Content
Some content is created specifically for FreeWishes.
This may include:
- Original wishes
- Greetings
- Captions
- Descriptions
- Editorial articles
- Festival explanations
- Product copy
- Educational content
- Interface content
- Original illustrations or designs
- Other creative material
Unless otherwise stated, original FreeWishes content is owned by or licensed to FreeWishes or Dotdunia Technologies.
3. Editorially Curated Content
Some material may be collected, researched, summarised or curated from:
- Publicly available information
- Historical sources
- Cultural traditions
- Public records
- Reference materials
- Widely known sayings
- Other lawful sources
Editorial curation does not necessarily mean FreeWishes claims ownership over the underlying third-party material.
Where appropriate, we seek to provide attribution or contextual information.
4. Quotes and Attributions
FreeWishes may publish quotations attributed to:
- Authors
- Philosophers
- Public figures
- Historical personalities
- Religious figures
- Artists
- Writers
- Scientists
- Other notable individuals
We aim to use reasonable care when attributing quotations.
However, quote attribution on the internet can sometimes be uncertain, disputed or historically inaccurate.
Accordingly:
- FreeWishes does not guarantee that every attribution is historically definitive.
- We may update or remove attribution when better evidence becomes available.
- We may label uncertain quotations as “Attributed to,” “Often attributed to,” “Traditional,” “Unknown,” or similar wording.
- We may remove quotations where authorship cannot reasonably be verified and continued publication creates concern.
If you believe an attribution is incorrect, please contact: [email protected]
5. Public-Domain Content
FreeWishes may use works that are believed to be in the public domain.
A work may enter the public domain because:
- Copyright has expired
- Copyright never applied
- Rights were expressly waived
- Applicable law otherwise permits unrestricted use
Public-domain status may vary between countries.
FreeWishes may therefore review or restrict material if a legitimate rights concern is raised.
6. Traditional and Cultural Material
Certain expressions, greetings, sayings, proverbs, festival traditions and cultural phrases may not have a single identifiable author.
FreeWishes may present such material as:
- Traditional
- Cultural
- Commonly used
- Folk material
- Author unknown
- Similar descriptive wording
We do not claim exclusive ownership over traditional or culturally established expressions merely because they appear on FreeWishes.
7. Copyright Exceptions
FreeWishes may in limited circumstances use copyrighted material where permitted under applicable law.
Depending on jurisdiction, relevant exceptions may include:
- Fair dealing
- Fair use
- Quotation
- Criticism
- Review
- Commentary
- Research
- Private study
- Education
- News reporting
- Parody or similar statutory exceptions
- Other lawful exceptions
Such exceptions are fact-specific and vary by jurisdiction.
FreeWishes does not assume that material automatically becomes lawful to use merely because:
- It is available online
- It is used for educational purposes
- It is credited
- It is non-commercial
- It is described as “fair use”
- No infringement was intended
8. Educational and Informational Use
Some FreeWishes material is presented for:
- Educational
- Informational
- Cultural
- Historical
- Commentary
- Reference
- Creative purposes
However, stating that material is educational or informational does not automatically create a copyright exception.
Where copyrighted material is used under an applicable exception, we aim to limit that use to what is reasonably necessary for the relevant purpose.
9. Fair Dealing in India
Where Indian copyright law applies, FreeWishes may rely on applicable statutory exceptions, including fair-dealing provisions where legally appropriate.
Possible permitted purposes may include:
- Research
- Private study
- Criticism
- Review
- Reporting of current events
- Other circumstances expressly permitted by law
Whether a particular use qualifies depends on the specific facts.
FreeWishes does not claim that every quotation or third-party work on the site automatically qualifies as fair dealing.
10. Fair Use in the United States
Where United States copyright law applies, certain uses may potentially qualify as fair use.
Fair-use analysis generally depends on factors such as:
- Purpose and character of the use
- Nature of the copyrighted work
- Amount and substantiality used
- Effect on the potential market for the original work
No single factor automatically determines the outcome.
FreeWishes therefore evaluates relevant material contextually rather than relying on a general “fair use” disclaimer.
11. European Quotation and Copyright Exceptions
Where European copyright law applies, quotations or other limited uses may be permitted only where relevant legal conditions are satisfied.
Depending on the applicable jurisdiction, considerations may include:
- Whether the source material was lawfully made available
- Whether the author or source is identified where reasonably possible
- Whether the use follows fair practice
- Whether the amount used is justified by the specific purpose
- Whether national implementation permits the particular use
FreeWishes may modify or remove material where appropriate.
12. Short Phrases and Common Expressions
Some short phrases, titles, names, slogans or commonplace expressions may not receive copyright protection in certain jurisdictions.
However, other legal rights may still apply, including:
- Trademark rights
- Passing-off rights
- Personality rights
- Unfair-competition rights
- Contractual rights
FreeWishes therefore does not assume that every short phrase is automatically unrestricted.
13. Poetry, Song Lyrics and Literary Works
FreeWishes takes particular care with:
- Poems
- Song lyrics
- Book excerpts
- Speeches
- Literary passages
- Scripts
- Movie dialogue
These materials may remain protected by copyright even when widely available online.
FreeWishes does not intend to reproduce substantial copyrighted literary, musical or dramatic works without appropriate legal basis.
Where such material is identified, we may:
- Remove it
- Shorten it
- Replace it
- Provide attribution
- Link to an authorised source
- Seek permission
- Take other appropriate action
14. Images, Illustrations and Artwork
Images appearing on FreeWishes may include:
- Original FreeWishes artwork
- Licensed images
- Public-domain images
- Generated images
- User-supplied images
- Other lawfully used material
FreeWishes does not intentionally claim ownership of third-party images merely because they appear on the website.
If you believe an image infringes your rights, please submit a removal request.
15. AI-Generated and AI-Assisted Content
FreeWishes may use artificial intelligence or automated tools to:
- Generate wishes
- Suggest messages
- Assist with editing
- Generate or refine images
- Support search
- Assist with content categorisation
- Support editorial workflows
AI-assisted content may be reviewed, edited or curated before publication.
FreeWishes does not guarantee that AI-generated content will always be:
- Unique
- Error-free
- Free from similarity to existing material
- Correctly attributed
- Suitable for every use
If an AI-assisted output raises a legitimate copyright or attribution concern, please report it.
Our use of AI is further explained in our AI Content Policy.
16. User-Submitted Content
Where users are allowed to submit:
- Messages
- Images
- Prompts
- Feedback
- Comments
- Creative material
- Other content
users must ensure that they have the necessary rights to submit that material.
Users must not knowingly submit material that infringes:
- Copyright
- Trademark
- Privacy
- Publicity rights
- Other intellectual-property rights
- Other legal rights
FreeWishes may remove user-submitted material where appropriate.
17. Licence for User-Submitted Content
Where you submit content for FreeWishes to process or display, you grant FreeWishes only the rights reasonably necessary to:
- Provide the requested feature
- Store the content where requested
- Display or process the content as part of the service
- Provide technical support
- Maintain security
- Comply with legal obligations
This does not automatically transfer ownership of your original work to FreeWishes.
Additional terms may apply where content is expressly submitted for public publication.
18. Trademarks
Names, logos, brands and trademarks belonging to third parties remain the property of their respective owners.
Reference to a third-party trademark does not necessarily imply:
- Sponsorship
- Partnership
- Endorsement
- Affiliation
FreeWishes trademarks, branding and original brand assets may not be used in a misleading or unauthorised manner.
19. Rights of Publicity and Personality Rights
Use of a person's:
- Name
- Image
- Likeness
- Voice
- Identity
- Biographical information
may be subject to privacy, publicity, personality or other legal rights.
FreeWishes may remove or modify material where a legitimate rights concern is established.
20. Content Removal Requests
If you believe content on FreeWishes infringes your copyright or other rights, you may submit a Content Removal Request.
Please provide:
- Your full name
- Your email address
- The FreeWishes URL containing the disputed material
- Identification of the content concerned
- Explanation of your rights
- Explanation of why you believe the content infringes those rights
- Supporting documentation where available
- A link to the original or authorised work where relevant
Send requests through our designated reporting mechanism or to: [email protected]
21. Copyright Complaint Declaration
Where your request concerns copyright infringement, we may ask you to confirm that:
- You have a good-faith belief that the disputed use has not been authorised by the copyright owner, its representative or applicable law.
- The information in your request is accurate.
- You are the rights holder or are authorised to act on behalf of the rights holder.
Please do not submit knowingly false or misleading claims.
22. Review of Removal Requests
When we receive a sufficiently detailed complaint, FreeWishes may:
- Review the reported material
- Check available source information
- Request additional information
- Temporarily restrict content where appropriate
- Correct attribution
- Modify content
- Remove content
- Reject unsupported claims
- Take other appropriate action
We aim to handle legitimate requests reasonably and in good faith.
23. Removal Is Not Automatic
Submitting a complaint does not automatically require FreeWishes to remove content.
A request may be declined where:
- The requester cannot identify the material
- The claim is unsupported
- The material is licensed
- The material is public domain
- Applicable law permits the use
- The requester does not appear authorised
- The claim is fraudulent
- Other lawful grounds support continued publication
We may nevertheless remove content voluntarily where doing so is reasonable.
24. Corrections Instead of Removal
In some situations, the appropriate response may be to:
- Correct attribution
- Add attribution
- Correct factual information
- Modify wording
- Replace an image
- Add context
- Reduce the amount used
- Link to an original source
rather than remove the entire page.
25. Repeat Infringement
Where applicable, FreeWishes may restrict or terminate accounts or contributors that repeatedly submit infringing material.
We may also block repeated abusive submissions or misuse of our services.
26. Counter-Notifications
Where applicable law provides a formal counter-notification process, a person whose material was removed may be able to dispute the removal.
FreeWishes may request information necessary to evaluate such a response.
Any applicable statutory process will be handled according to the law governing the specific complaint.
27. U.S. Copyright Complaints
For claims subject to United States copyright law, FreeWishes may process qualifying copyright notices consistent with applicable notice-and-takedown principles.
A copyright complaint should identify:
- The copyrighted work
- The allegedly infringing material
- Its location on FreeWishes
- Contact information
- A good-faith statement
- A statement regarding the accuracy and authority of the claimant
- An appropriate signature where required
Nothing in this section represents that a particular statutory safe harbour automatically applies to FreeWishes.
28. Indian Copyright Complaints
Where Indian law applies, FreeWishes may evaluate claims according to applicable provisions of:
- The Copyright Act, 1957
- Applicable amendments
- Relevant rules
- Court orders
- Other binding legal requirements
Rights holders may report suspected infringement through our removal process.
29. International Copyright Complaints
Copyright laws vary internationally.
Where a complaint concerns another jurisdiction, FreeWishes may consider:
- Location of the claimant
- Location of the rights
- Location of the service
- Applicable copyright law
- International copyright treaties
- Applicable legal exceptions
- Other relevant circumstances
We may seek additional information where necessary.
30. False or Abusive Complaints
You must not knowingly submit:
- False claims
- Fraudulent ownership assertions
- Fabricated evidence
- Misleading copyright notices
- Requests intended to censor lawful criticism
- Harassing or abusive reports
FreeWishes may reject such requests and preserve relevant information where necessary to protect legal rights.
31. Moral Rights
Certain jurisdictions recognise moral rights such as:
- Right of attribution
- Right of integrity
- Rights against prejudicial modification
Where applicable, FreeWishes will consider legitimate moral-rights concerns submitted through our reporting process.
32. Database and Compilation Rights

Users may not copy or extract substantial portions of FreeWishes databases or collections without permission where prohibited by law.

Any such use must comply with applicable law, our Terms and relevant rights.
35. Search Engines and Indexing

please provide available supporting evidence.
Where warranted, we may correct or remove the attribution.
41. Content Ownership Questions
If you are unsure whether material on FreeWishes belongs to you or your organisation, you may contact us before submitting a formal complaint.
